Here is the description of the talk:

Rich Author, Poor Writer – How to get paid for doing what you love

Do you spend your days at a 9-5 job wishing you were writing? Have you poured more time into writing query letters and synopses than actual stories, only to be rejected time and time again? Have you spent countless hours racking your brain as to why publishers aren’t interested in your writing when you have hundreds of fans who love your work?

Then it’s time to become a rich author and stop thinking like a poor writer!

Lisa Cottrell-Bentley spent over eight years sending query letters and receiving rejections. Publishers claimed that the 2.2 million families in her target audience were not enough to make her books profitable. She disagreed and sought investors to help get her into her emerging niche market.

With modern technologies, it is easier than ever for a writer’s work to get to its intended audience. Lisa will help define a variety of often misunderstood terms as well as help lay out a plan for writers to get paid to do what they love the most: write!

Lisa Cottrell-Bentley is no stranger to start-up companies, having worked for and/or owned five. So, when private investment made it possible to her to turn her small internet consulting company, Do Life Right, Inc., into an independent publishing house, she went for it and hasn’t looked back. Lisa is currently writing more of her Wright on Time series of children’s chapter books and actively seeking additional capital to accelerate the growth of Do Life Right, Inc. With two published books under its belt, Wright on Time: Arizona, Book 1, and Wright on Time: Utah, Book 2, Do Life Right, Inc. is now accepting submissions for additional children’s books featuring homeschooled children. Lisa lives, learns and writes in Sahuarita, Arizona on ten acres with her husband and busy and brilliant daughters. Her desire is for all people to live their own personal dreams–starting now! February 27th, 2010LisaPoor Writer, Rich Author

I’m so happy you’ve found the Rich Author, Poor Writer website. This site is dedicated to every frustrated and struggling writer out there. I’m here to help you transform from a poor writer into a rich author and make all your dreams come true!

Who am I and how can I do this?

My name is Lisa Cottrell-Bentley and I’ve been where you are. I spent nearly a decade struggling with the publishing industry. I followed all the “rules”, only to find myself poor and depressed. I’d lost my writer’s voice and I’d given up.

That’s when I took a step back from all the advice I’d been given and I looked at modern publishing in a new light.  I researched all the publishing options available today with critical eyes, yet with an open mind, and I decided to do things my way, rather than the way that wasn’t working. I discovered new ways of publishing that brought my writing to my readers quicker, professionally, and with more money in my pocket. My new way is working and I’m certain you can discover and succeed at your way.

I’m happy to tell my entire story (I’m an author!) and I will, but first I want to emphasize that this is not a “one size fits all” solution for writers to become success stories! The success path that I have chosen works for me, my type of writing, and my particular goals. Unless your writing and goals are identical to mine, my path probably won’t be best for you. I am here to help empower you to make the best decisions for your unique situation.

    What is my secret?

Listening to my conscious guide me. Sounds simple, but it’s not when you are bombarded with a million tidbits of advice each day.

    What is this site about?

Beyond the Rich Author, Poor Writer book that will be for sale in Summer 2010 and the various mp3 audio programs for sale, I will be: writing encouraging words and ideas for you to ponder, posting success stories I hear about (maybe even yours!), uncovering money myths, and exploring practical applications for you to use in your own writing career. I believe that everyone has a story to tell and if you are so inclined to write the stories (fiction and non-fiction) in you, then they can reach their intended readers. We can do this and not be struggling artists in the meantime.
